NEW CLINIC MANGER HIRED AND READY TO START IN HER NEW ROLE

MASON CITY, Iowa – The Cerro Gordo County Free Health Care Clinic is pleased to announce the hiring of a new Clinic Manager.   Mica Harris takes over for Karen Slife, who is retiring this month.   

Harris says, “I am honored to be a part of the Cerro Gordo County Free Health Care Clinic, as I have a long-standing passion for social justice in health care. I look forward to serving my community and working with the many volunteers involved in providing services to patients that are under- and un-insured.“

Through the years Harris has worked at Heritage Care Center as a charge nurse, Mercy Medical Center -North Iowa as a home care nurse, infusion specialist, NICU nurse, GI lab nurse, and PICC team leader.

Harris received an associate in arts degree from North Iowa Area Community College, an associate degree in nursing from North Iowa Area Community College, a baccalaureate of science degree in nursing from The University of Iowa, a master’s of science degree in nursing leadership and management and a post-master’s certificate in nursing education from Walden University.  She has a doctorate in nursing practice from St. Catherine University and is a board certified nurse executive.

Free Clinic Board President Amy Fleming says, “We’ve found a true gem in Mica Harris. The board of directors is thrilled to have Mica take over as Clinic Manager.  She will be an incredible asset to the clinic’s needs.” 

Harris says she’s excited start her new role and looks forward to helping patients receive the medical care they need.

Harris adds, “The Affordable Care Act has been pivotal in increasing access to health care for many people, but we continue to have a significant number of people who are without health care coverage. It is these patients that rely on services provided by the free clinic to maintain their health and wellness. This is important to me and I am grateful for the opportunity.”

Harris has three children: Zachary, Caleb, and Noah.   She also has a granddaughter, Vera Harris. 

The Cerro Gordo County Free Health Care Clinic is open the 2nd and 4thSaturdays of each month, from 9am-12pm.   Patients can call 888-669-4662 to schedule an appointment.

CERRO GORDO COUNTY FREE HEALTH CARE CLINIC MAKING CHANGES


MASON CITY, Iowa – Changes are happening at the Cerro Gordo County Free Health Care Clinic.   The Board of Directors approved adjusting clinic hours to the 2nd & 4th Saturdays of each month.  The hours will remain the same, 9am-noon with appointments preferred, but walk-ins welcome.

 

Board President, Amy Fleming says, “This is a good thing.  Our goal is to help people get the medical care they need, and then help them find additional resources available to them in the area.”

  

The new hours will begin in 2016, with the first clinic sessions held January 9 & January 23.

 

In addition to these changes, the Free Clinic is also looking for a new Clinic Manager. Current manager, Karen Slife will be retiring, and the search is on for her replacement.  Slife started as Clinic Manager at the Free Clinic in September 2010.

 

Fleming adds, “We have been truly blessed to have Karen’s expertise lead the Free Clinic.  We are so thankful for her time & dedication to the clinic over the past several years.  We wish her all the best.”

The Cerro Gordo County Free Health Care Clinic Names New Clinic Manager, and Introduces Medical Director

Karen Slife will take over the Clinic Manager duties starting September 1, 2010. Karen is already very familiar with the Free Clinic, working as a volunteer nurse. She takes over for Allison Beattie, who helped get the Free Clinic going last year. Allison is a Nursing Supervisor at St. Mary's Free Clinics in the Twin Cities area, and has been a wealth of knowledge for the Free Clinic in Mason City.

"We would not be where we are today without Allison. The Board of Directors can't thank her enough for all of the work she's put into the Free Clinic over the past year, she's done a great job," says Amy Fleming, Board President.

Karen has an extensive nursing background, graduating from the University of Dubuque with her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing.

Karen worked for Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa for 34 years. She served a number of roles, including head nurse of the Emergency Center and director of nursing. She was instrumental as the director in growing Mercy Home Care from 1986-2005.

In recent years, Karen has been a Clinical Instructor of Nursing for Kaplan University.

"Karen's already been a super volunteer for the Free Clinic. She'll transition perfectly into the role of Clinic Manager," says Fleming.

In addition to this change, the Free Clinic is happy to announce Amy Tesar, D.O., as Medical Director. She's been serving as the Free Clinic's Medical Director since April.

The clinic is located at Lindstrom Family Practice, 1327 6th St. SW in Mason City, and is open Saturday mornings from 9:00am-Noon. Appointments can be made by calling 888-669-4662. Walk-ins are always welcome.

Free Clinic Announces Opening Date

Mason City, IA- Just in time for the season of giving, a highly anticipated Mason City-based medical clinic is opening for those in need. The Cerro Gordo County Free Health Care Clinic Board is announcing Saturday, November 21st, as its official opening for treatment. The clinic serves the uninsured and underinsured residents of Cerro Gordo County.

Board President Amy Fleming says, "It's very fitting our opening comes right before Thanksgiving. The Board of Directors is so very thankful to all of the generous volunteers who put in countless hours, the generous people of north Iowa who've made donations, and the medical personnel who will give of their time and talents to the free clinic. It's truly an exciting time for our community."

Allison Beattie, RNC-TNP of Sheffield is the Clinic Manager and Dr. John H. Brinkman, M.D. is the Medical Director. The clinic shares space with Lindstrom Family Practice and is located at 1327 Sixth St. SW in Mason City.

This Friday only, patients can call from 1 pm-5pm to make an appointment. After this weekend, those seeking medical attention must call during the clinic's hours of service. Those are every Saturday, between 9 am-Noon.

Beattie & Brinkman to Lead Free Clinic Team

Mason City, IA- The Cerro Gordo County Free Health Care Clinic Board of Directors, names its medical team.

Allison Beattie, RNC-TNP of Sheffield, accepted the position of Clinic Manager.

"This is truly a great fit," says Board President, Amy Fleming. "Allison serves as Nursing Supervisor at St. Mary's Health Clinics in the Twin Cities. She can continue to do her work there, while bringing her expertise to our clinic."

Dr. John Brinkman, MD of Mason City, will take on the role of Medical Director.

"Dr. Brinkman is so well respected in the community, and I can't think of a better person for this position," says Fleming. "Dr. Brinkman and Allison Beattie make a fantastic team, and it's exciting to see the progress the Free Clinic is making."

The Cerro Gordo County Free Health Care Clinic board is also reminding future patients the clinic is not yet open for medical care.

Board President Amy Fleming says they are looking toward a fall, 2009 opening. No exact date is set. The board, medical advisors and volunteers are working diligently on various aspects of the facility.

Fundraising continues to go strong. Donations and grant money are already topping the $84,000 mark. The clinic welcomes your tax-deductible donations.

Large Donations to Cerro Gordo County Free Health Care Clinic

Mason City, IA- On Friday, April 3 at 1:15pm, Pat Tomson and Marti Rodamaker will present the Cerro Gordo County Free Health Care Clinic with checks totaling $10,000 from the First Citizens National Bank Charitable Foundation and the Tomson family.

This brings the free clinic's total donations to $43,000; a total of $70,000 is needed to pay for equipment and supplies before the clinic opens.

The free clinic will provide basic medical care free of charge to Cerro Gordo County residents who have no health insurance.

It will be staffed by volunteer health professionals and located in clinic space donated by Dr. Lori Lindstrom.
